Breastfeeding Problems
Either way lots of these women carry a lot of guilt and unnecessarily so. Let me say right up front that although I'm passionate about nursing and I believe in the benefits of breastfeeding, there is so much more to being a great mum.
When I had my boys and had problems with breastfeeding, the advice I got 9 out of 10 times was to put them on formula. I would get comments like: "Why are you making yourself suffer like this?", "I gave my kids formula and they are fine", the list is almost endless.
I know they all meant well but what they didn't understand is that I wanted to nurse my boys more than anything. I found it frustrating that I was made to feel like I had no other real option but to give them formula. The only place I found any real support was the Australian Breastfeeding Association, I honestly would not have gotten through the first few weeks without them.
If you want to breastfeed it's likely that you can. There is only small percentage of women world wide who can't. Women who have never given birth are able to lactate and nurse their adopted babies. So if you truly want to and again it's entirely your choice then with the right information and support it's likely that you can work through any breastfeeding problem.
I hope that the information below helps you work through whatever breastfeeding issues you may be experiencing, as it truly is a special gift. But at the end of the day a happy mum leads to a happy baby and a great mum will always be a great mum no matter how she chooses to feed.
