Baby Needs
Sometimes breastfeeding is blamed for lots of different baby needs or baby conditions. And without the right information and support you may feel that the best or simplest option is to stop breastfeeding.
Have you noticed all the different types of formulas that are coming on the market lately, claiming to fix various baby problems? There's formula to help your baby sleep, to help with reflux and colic is it just very clever marketing?
My girlfriend was mixing that many pre and post breast milk formulas to help combat one thing or another that in the end she decided it would be best to just formula feed.
Many women do this, and they find that after a while the problem disappears, the formula works. But does it? I think often the formula can stop mum from feeling guilty about what she thinks her milk might be doing to her baby. We often blame ourselves.
I find that often the timing of it all suddenly working, is about the time that their baby would have naturally overcome the issue through continual and exclusive breastfeeding!!
Coping with allergies, and various wind problems can be frustrating, but often supplementing with or switching to formula can make it worse and lead to other problems.
I think often baby needs are very individual and that a blanket soloution may not be what's needed. Sometimes babies just need time to adjust to their new world, to the new way their body is functioning, and sometimes as mums we just need to trust that our body is providing what our baby needs and get the right supportso that we can continue to do that.
Please always remember to consult your health professional to find out information that is relevant to your specific situation.
